After a deluge of emails and mocking the absurd Obama administration plan for a 15-cent "fee" on Christmas trees has been scrapped. The fee to retail Christmas tree sales was described as meant to pay for a promotional program in response to artificial trees. Grinching Christmas and picking winners-and-loser was initially embraced by the Obama administration until conservatives and Tea Party citizen journalists caught scent of the scheme.
"Fees for Trees" was poised to go down as another "Cash for Clunkers" style misstep. A "smack in the face to each and every American who celebrates Christmas," accoding to Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La). The National Christmas Tree Association asked to receive the gift of crony capitalism for Christmas, but ended up with a lump of coal in its stocking...
“I can tell you unequivocally that the Obama administration is not taxing Christmas trees,” White House spokesman Matt Lehrich said.
