Tea Party Infiltration Report: Signs of the Tide: How to Be an Advocate for Your Community

CoastKeeper's Signs of the Tide

USD Law School hosted an event by San Diego CoastKeepers called "Signs of the Tide:How to Be an Advocate for Your Community." The event focused on training environmental activists and advocates to be more effective when dealing with legislative and regulatory agencies.  As a tea party supporter, the event was an opportunity to learn the tactics of the environmental left.

Before we dive into a summary of the discussion, let me set the scene. CoastKeepers served Oggi's Pizza, cookies, submarine sandwiches and even mini-muffins. It was a delicious and free meal for aspiring environmental lawyer activists. The organization must be well funded.  The USD campus is beautiful and the building Warren Hall was nice.  Room 3A was very hot and a diesel generator was just outside the window. The noise made it difficult to hear the discussion.  The tea party did not place the generator nor turn off the air conditioning.

Former San Diego city councilwoman, Donna Fry used humor to keep the crowd engaged. Democrat San Diego City Council president Tony Young participated. Sara Wan, former California Coastal Commissioner and Arthur Coe, a former staff member at Regional Water Quality Control Board rounded out the discussion panel. The audience consisted of various former and current officials and staff members along side the future environmental advocates.

The presentation was even-handed and avoided most extreme left-wing politics. The event was informative but for a target audience of lawyers it seemed simplistic. Much of the discussion centered upon building credibility with officials who you intend to influence.

Aspiring activists were given a list of do's and dont's: ( listed in approximate order of importance)

Do:
  1. Build Credibility.
  2. Be concise.
  3. Propose a solution. "State what you want the officials to do."
  4. Stick to the main topic.
  5. Understand CEQA.
  6. Bring someone with a personal story related to the issue at hand.
  7. Understand the political climate around the decision makers.
  8. Bring supporters who are informed about the issue at hand.
  9. Spread major points between several concise allies.
  10. Get a meeting with the officials you wish to interact with. An introduction meeting is enough to get the ball rolling.
  11. Know your audience. "Do not talk to the Water Quality Control Board about air quality."
  12. Get involved at the beginning of the process because the "ball is rolling downhill" later in the process.
  13. Learn about the officials you are presenting to and know details like what they like for breakfast.
  14. Sue the government to force enforcement of existing law.
Don't:
  1. Insult the officials.
  2. Lie or make unsupported claims. "You will lose all future credibility."
  3. Don't come late to the party. "By the time something is on the official agenda, you are a year behind the political process."
  4. Antagonize your opponents or engage in a debate during your limited presentation time.
  5. Make enemies with your opponent activists and advocates because you may be able to work together on other issues.
  6. Don't bring a bus load of "people wearing buttons who don't know why they are there."
Two groups were singled out as examples of what not to do:

First, the medical marijuana movement had won. It then worked to repeal its own victory in San Diego in order to get a more perfect outcome. The result was a shut down of the marijuana dispensaries by the Department of Justice.

Second, Occupy San Diego evolved from gaining the sympathy of left-leaning Democrats into a disorganized mess. Examples were given of occupiers arguing among themselves. OSD also lost coherent leadership which could be worked with by other advocates and activists. It is assumed that references to "people wearing buttons who don't know why they are there," referred to Occupy San Diego.

At risk of wandering off topic, Doo Doo Economics has been tough on the occupy movement. This is not due to hate, but of concern for American's safety. The occupy movement is now cannon fodder for the progressive movement.

Occupy is simultaneously being used as controlled opposition and demonized as violent. Controlled opposition takes political focus off of the multiparty success of the tea party movement. Demonization establishes, with regard to President Obama, "the perception of a violent occupy movement is a perfect opponent." This perception of violence is used to assault the first and second amendments and further centralize corrupt power. We may disagree on the chicken-and-the-egg arguments between government corruption and corporate corruption, but that does not preclude compassion for fellow Americans.

Absent were mentions of factual arguments. Most of the discussion points came down to "personal relationships" with the decision makers, their staff and other advocates. This is not surprising as the speakers were all left-leaning and more concerned with emotional appeals.

Humanity is best when intellect and emotion come together. In sports we call this convergence, "being in the zone." America has traditionally benefited from having liberals and conservatives approach common problems from different points of view. So, hopefully, some left-wing advocates will develop working relationships with the rest of us. Don't hold your breath, but this civility sentiment was echoed when Donna Fry mentioned:
Don't make everything personal. Not everyone on the other side is evil because they disagree with you.
It is unlikely to happen while the Obama administration drives division through class, sex and race warfare.

James Holmes' Dark Knight Rises Shooting Motive Is Not Insanity

How comfortable is it to understand the motive to murder? It is not comfortable and most people view the world in the way which best reflects upon themselves. Facing reality and truth can be difficult for this reason. It is much easier to pigeonhole a person or event as "crazy" in order to separate it from your life and make believe that it could never happen to you. It is called denial and we all use it.

James Holmes is being called "crazy" for this reason, we are in denial. So here is some cold water:

James Holmes is a homegrown terrorist not simply a "nut job". Violence, even war, is simply politics by other means. The apparent goal of the attack on the movie is to shut it down.

(This fits with control theory: "our acts have the same goal, gaining control of our environment." It also fits with the theoretical goal of evil: "to gain control of mankind," hence socialism: communism and fascism, and other forms of slavery.)

Stifling speech and shouting down opposition is globally a common leftist political tactic. This implies that Holmes is either anti-corporate or seeks revenge against the anti-Occupy message of the movie. Thus many political people immediately look to the Occupy movement for the motive.

Other motives also being floated include:
  • 'He is a nut-job who thinks that he is the movie character named The Joker.'
  • 'He was on anti-depressants' which lead to violent behavior as your brain is depleted of chemicals responsible for 'good feelings'.
  • 'He wanted to become famous.'
  • Available guns made him do it. (Sen. Diane Feinstein CA. Democrat )
  • It was an Obama administration plot to promote the U.N. Small Arms Treaty being pushed in the U.S. Senate. A treaty with the constitutional weight to strip away the Second Amendment right to bare arms.
  • There is no motive and you cannot understand these types of events.
These motives simply do not add up. Holmes studied neuroscience and understands that America loves movies. Attacking a movie theater hits Americans in a place of comfort, refuge and happiness. Everyone has been to a movie theater. Associating fear with a common destination is an act of terrorism.

(Fellow SLOB Left Coast Rebel discusses the fear of movie theater terrorists.)

Holmes did not dress like The Joker. The character played by Health Ledger in the previous Dark Knight movie has yellow/green hair, and wore bright colors. Can anyone recall the character wearing a gas mask?

The closest joker connection is to the video game Arkham City which takes place in an abandoned movie theaterThe Monarch, outside of which Bruce Wayne's parents were killed. Unless the motive for the shooting is to create a real-life Batman,  Holmes is not playing the movie villain.

Per the Colorado legal definition of Insanity, James Holmes is not insane.

Colorado uses the M'Naghten Rule:
Under the M'Naghten rule, a criminal defendant is not guilty by reason of insanity if, at the time of the alleged criminal act, the defendant was so deranged that she did not know the nature or quality of her actions or, if she knew the nature and quality of her actions, she was so deranged that she did not know that what she was doing was wrong.
Holmes planned the attack for a reason. The planning took up to 4 months. Common usage of the term "crazy" refers to people in an extremely agitated state. The shooter is not "crazy" by common usage, and does not seem to fit the M'Nagthen rule.

Further, the Colorado legislature has reportedly made acts born of revenge, hate and anger exempt from the insanity defense.
..care should be taken not to confuse such mental disease or defect with moral obliquity, mental depravity, or passion growing out of anger, revenge, hatred, or other motives, and kindred evil conditions, for when the act is induced by any of these causes the person is accountable to the law
Insanity is an individual legal defense. There is an eye witness report that the shooter had help.

It has been countered by police chief Dan Oats:
We have no information that he acted with anyone else at this time.
Police Chief Oats also added "serious calculation and deliberation on his part", "the FBI has been helpful" and "investigators are working on" where the money came from.
(Fellow SLOB WC Varones is reporting that the National Institute of Health was the source of funding for James Holmes.)

The FBI and DHS have been warning about terrorist attacks on theaters since two Islamic terrorist attacks in early April 2012 (nearly 4 months ago). Here is an FBI Roll Call Release published on 17 May declaring that terrorists are "interested in attacking theaters". Click here for pdf:

Americans have a very visual reason to associate the attack with Occupy Wall Street even if it is jumping to a conclusion. It would be naive to believe that the promoted imagery of the movement does not hold an associative meaning or strategic aim.

My personal belief is that many of the occupiers share common concerns about the direction of society, the country and the world. While it may be a tea party sentiment, hopefully occupy understands freedom lost in America will soon mean its loss for all humanity. It is unimaginable to believe that the thousands of years of human struggle against slavery and rule is lost on an entire political movement.

It is this belief that focuses my attention on the difference in tactics used by occupy and the tea party. Tactics that will be used by the political left to justify assaults on free speech, freedom of assembly, the right to bare arms and to promote government powered "protection from fear" in larger society. All of these goals were originally hoisted upon the peaceful members of the tea party. The difference between the two movements is the origin and branding of occupy as pro-violence. The term "Occupy" is in itself designed to incite fearful images of military forces conquering and oppressing.

The real problem is in Washington. Wall Street is just a symbol used to create false hope in the belief that destroying our economic system will lead to freedom. Our individual freedom based system is the best ever conceived. Free markets are what liberate people in order to bring real hope through economic freedom. "Taking from the rich" will only lead to everyone being poor and the loss of hope for a better life.

Former Occupy San Diego Member Attacks Batman Movie

Colorado University images of James E. Holmes

(7/20/2012 10:30 AM) Reports by a Florida private investigator connect the Aurora Colorado shooter with Occupy San Diego.  The motivation for the shooting appears to be the negative portrayal of the Occupy Wall Street movement. There are conflicting reports about this but it fits with our coverage of the plot of the movie. The shooter is being called a "black block" member of occupy who felt the movement was not radical enough.

James E Holmes
1690 Paris St, Apt 10
Aurora, CO 80010-2918

James E. Holmes (DOB 12/13/1987) is 24 years old from San Diego CA.
Bill Warner private investigator at http://www.wbipi.com/

The following pictures are from a site called 9gag. If they are real, the user 9GAGftw is the shooter James E. Holmes and he was incited to violence by users on the site. All references have now been removed, but these are screenshots recovered online. Reports now suggest a rival website created these images as a hoax.

The shooter had dropped out of a Ph.D program at the University of Colorado. He had a degree from U.C. Riverside in Neuroscience. The Holmes family lives in San Diego but may have kicked James out (unconfirmed). James had moved into his Aurora apartment within the last couple weeks.  His father may be faculty at the U.S. Naval War College.

The shooter was not legally carrying firearms but was wearing a bullet-proof vest and dressed in black riot gear. Tear gas was used on the theater patrons. The shooting lasted 15 minutes or more which suggests that all the movie patrons were unarmed.

Immediately after the shooting ABC News' Brian Ross and George Stephanopoulos speculated on Good Morning America that Holmes was a Tea Party member, based solely on a name appearing on a Tea Party website. The person identified is a 52-year-old Hispanic Tea Party member, not the 24 year old shooter.

Reports that the shooter was a registered Democrat may not be correct. It seems that he is not registered to vote or is not part of a major political party.

Hopefully the shooter cooperates with police. Society needs to learn what and why this occurred.

It is very possible that some of this initial information is wrong, but it is the best available at the moment.

Update 11:30 AM PST; Comments from Occupy San Diego:
"Trying to smear a movement that has the support of tens of millions of Americans with the actions of a likely psychotic monster is incredibly disrepectful to the victims, their families and the people of the United States.

If it turns out that the individual had ever participated in any Occupy activity, along with millions of Americans, in a unique forum where NO ONE was denied the chance to contribute, then it means as little about the Occupy movement as the many acts of violence connected to known Tea Party supporters mean about the Tea Party movement's goals.

Actually, it means LESS, since Tea Party sympathizers have been found trying to bomb the border after hearing calls for landmines along the Rio Grande at a Phoenix Tea Party formal speech, for example, whereas the Occupy movement has always stood TOTALLY AGAINST ALL VIOLENCE against people, in every statement, every GA and among the organizers of every major event." Leif
No person contacted in the Occupy San Diego movement recognized James Holmes.

"Black Block" per Occupy San Diego is not a group, it is a tactic.

UPDATE 7/22 3 AM:
0) Answers to comments: At this point, changing the title of the post will not help. The connection to OWS was from a private investigator in Florida. Also, Death threats were associated with the movie due to critics reviews. Many of the reviews mentioned the anti-occupy themes of the movie.

1) Reports that the James Holmes car was from Tennessee and had a Romney bumper-sticker were debunked: Photos revealed the lack of bumper-sticker and the following information:

  • 1690 PARIS ST #10
  • Aurora, CO 80010
  • Hyundai Tiburon
  • Purchased 3/15/2011
  • License Renewed 1/10/2012
  • VIN: KMHJG25F8YU200570
Sample CO license plate
Photos from DailyMail.co.uk here.  Here is a comparison CO license plate.

2) Photos of James Holmes at an Occupy event have been run through facial recognition software with a 96% match. The credibility of the person doing the analysis is at question. The hair is curly in the occupy photo and the person has a beard. The software compares eyes, ears and nose to make matches. Hair changes due to humidity and styling. This is a matter of opinion at this point.

3) Corrected reference to medical school - He was in a Ph.D. program.

4) After viewing The Dark Knight Rises movie, I can confirm it is anti-occupy. The villain is short one Occupy Gothem sign to make it explicit. The villains directly attack "Wall Street," hold "people's tribunals," and more.

Also, the villain makes a statement about using "false hope" to destroy society. This played like a political reference. A reference viewed through my own bias about our current President.

In the end, the point to the movie could be the inner conflict of Batman against a backdrop of social unrest that threatens to unleash social chaos.

Christopher Nolan has released a statement about the shooting:
"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community. I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime. The movie theater is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me. Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."
5)  I am a tea partier and not an occupier. It is my goal to be fair, but find the truth. Truth has become so rare that it now interrupts our self-involved fantasy worlds and enrages many of us. Truth has become a blinding light in a pitch black room. It is up to "we the people" to find and remember truth as the media has become to corrupted and unreliable. So, I apologize for anything that I get wrong. Hopefully, you will correct me when needed, but let's remember:

  • Jarod Loughner, a far-left, flag burning, 2012 prophecy, communist manifesto murderer was tied to the tea party. Rep. Gabriel Gifford (D) is remembered but when was the last time you heard the name of  Federal Judge John Roll, appointed by President George H. W. Bush to the bench in 1991? The judge and five others died that day.
  • Fort Hood Islamic terrorist Major Nidal Hasan was active military assigned to help our returning soldiers. Major Hasan encouraged Islamic terrorist suicide bombings, but the Obama administration downplayed his motives to ensure their "terrorism on American soil" count did not rise. Political correctness caused the problem and was then used to dampen discussion and derail the effort to find solutions.
  • Joseph Stack, after writing an anti-corporate, anti-Catholic, anti-corruption, anti-Bush, anti-capitalist manifesto, crashed his plane into an IRS building. His attack had the expressed purpose to wake up "American zombies" to revolt against the government. He was labeled "tea party" because he made the statement "I have just had enough." Stack has been completely forgotten since his death in Feb. 2010. A fact that serves only one master.
The motives of James Holmes are of primary importance. If Holmes is part of a political movement that has become intolerant of opposition to the point of terrorism, we all need to know.  We need to evaluate the situation to find the truth and not allow it be used to further take our rights and responsibilities.  To understand who is really on our side, we need to who is telling the truth.

One other thing is clear, a gun that could have saved lives was not present.

Update 7/22 11 AM:
More pictures are available of the shooter, which may be of use to those who are comparing them to the "occupy photo."
TMZ has a myspace photo: http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/20/batman-massacre-james-holmes-photo/

ABC News via TMZ video of shooter at about 18 years of age: http://www.tmz.com/2012/07/22/colorado-shooting-james-holmes-video-high-school/

Update 7/22 10:45 PM:
1) Per the Colorado legal definition of Insanity, James Holmes is not insane.

 2) James Holmes has been targeted by Jailhouse Justice per fellow SLOBs writter Lipstick Underground:
“Kid Killer! Kid Killer! Kid Killer!”
That was the threatening welcome fellow inmates of the Colorado Arapahoe Detention Center gave unapologetic James Holmes when he arrived at the jailhouse Saturday.
Update 7/23 11 AM:
Another picture with curly red/orange hair to compare to Occupy protester.
Update 7/24 7 PM:
Fellow SLOB WC Varones is reporting that the National Institute of Health was the source of funding for James Holmes.
